Alumni Profile: Nicole Martin

Nicole Martin, Esq. is a newly admitted attorney to the California Bar, a recent graduating LLM candidate of the American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), class of 2022, and a JD candidate of Arizona State University Law school, class of 2020.

Upon receiving her JD, Nicole attended the flagship LLM intellectual property program in AUWCL part-time. In addition, she was the recipient of the Information Justice Fellowship.

I first encountered Nicole through editing one of her publications for the IP brief: Indigenous Rights: An Analysis of Intellectual Property Protections . Her passion for advocating for information justice in the marginalized community’s cultural and scientific expressions is inspiring and noteworthy.

Q: What got you interested in IP law?

A: My first encounter with the IP law started with an introduction class I took at Arizona State University. I felt the requirement to have a “hard science” background to practice IP was biased and should not stop anyone from pursuing a career in information justice. As my interest grew in the field, I started to work in ASU’s Innovation Advancement Clinic. I worked with young start-ups, drafting contract services, and conducting trademark searches.
