In the episode “Who Shot Mr. Burns?,” the power-plant tycoon in “The Simpsons” is shot after revealing a plan to block out the sun and force the community to use more of his electricity.
It was funny and all, but it was one of those exaggerated things that could never happen in real life, and … uh-oh.
The New York Times reported at the end of March that “The idea of artificially cooling the planet to blunt climate change — in effect, blocking sunlight before it can warm the atmosphere — got a boost on Thursday when an influential scientific body urged the United States government to spend at least $100 million to research the technology.”
The one thing Biden’s infrastructure plan didn’t think of. That we know of. (I don’t know which is more disappointing, that the president didn’t include sun-blocking technology in his infrastructure bill, or that Republicans didn’t think to pretend that he did.)
Of course it makes perfect sense, though. Planet is getting too hot too fast, so block the sun and problem solved. Who could be against that, except maybe Coppertone?
